A family story believed for generations...turned out to be wrong

A client believed her family had Pacific Islander ancestry based on long-held oral history connected to a distinctive surname. Instead of starting with that assumption, I rebuilt the direct ancestral line generation by generation, documenting each record and creating a clear timeline.

A key marriage record ultimately clarified the surname’s origin and revealed a documented Chinese connection. The case was a powerful reminder that family stories matter — but they must be tested carefully against primary evidence.

Identifying a Biological Father Through DNA

After a client shared her DNA results, I conducted a structured analysis of her match list, focusing on shared centimorgan patterns and cluster grouping. By mapping common ancestral lines and eliminating unrelated branches, a clear candidate emerged. Documentary research then confirmed the connection. The process required both genetic interpretation and traditional record verification to reach a supported conclusion.

Restoring a German Lineage

Research into a client’s great-grandfather began with limited family knowledge of his migration from Germany in the mid 1800s. Using passenger lists, parish records and local archival material, I reconstructed his movements across southern Western Australia. The investigation not only mapped his life in Australia but also reconnected the family to documented records in his German homeland, restoring a lineage that had been fragmented for generations.

Every case is different. If your story includes assumptions, gaps or unanswered questions, let’s test them against the records.
